Currently, updating the event status isn't very obvious and causes confusion.

Anything that can make it more obvious what status you're in, and what is next, would be helpful.

Eg, CRM's often have a status bar, like the attached.

One suggestions that came in:

"Is there a way to make the color fill for Results Published a different color than gray, maybe nice and obnoxious neon green?

The "Complete" and "Results Published" are both gray and maybe a color change would help catch this from happening again.

And maybe the "Cancelled" could have a Strikethrough in it."
