Fan voting
Melissa Orr
Idea from Maxell:
Had an idea that could be fun for the events, integrate a live voting mechanic that fans at the event can join in on. Specifically thinking this would be interesting to see for skimboarding events. The scores would be unofficial but it would be very interesting to see how the crowd scores vs judges.

From Dario at Surfing Suisse:
We would like to involve our viewers a bit more in our contests. For example, they could vote for their favorite athlete, or in certain divisions, a viewer "judging" could be implemented.
Ideally, this would work digitally, and we could also collect the viewers' email addresses.
Then I had the idea that the whole thing could be integrated into live heats. Viewers scan a QR code and are then taken to a page, enter their email address, and then proceed to the voting.
As the organizer, you can choose what the viewers can vote on:
Give each wave a score of 1-10, like the judges. Everything is added up and divided by the number of people who voted for the wave.
Each viewer can create their own rating of the current surfers. Option 1: Simply from those in the heat. Option 2: From all participants in the division. Ideally, there is a ranking, e.g., places 1-10. Voters can drag and drop the surfers into the positions and move them around as they wish. When they're done, confirm.
It's not directly about rating what they saw on the water; you can simply vote for the person you like best, the person you're a fan of, or simply think they're the best.
The organizers can then decide what they want to do based on the options. For example, option 3 could be for a special prize for the athlete or something similar, like in Formula E, where there's an extra boost. Or option 2 could be used for a format where the viewers decide who advances.
The viewers' contact details are then sent to you and to the organizers. This gives the organizers another opportunity to generate leads that can be marketed.F

Lucas from SNSW also mentioned this as an idea he'd like to see....specifically he was thinking about ways to integrate sponsors better
