As an Official at surf lifesaving events and part of the original surf lifesaving/ lifesaving trials conducted a few years ago at a Noosa masters event i can only congratulate you guys for the progress it has made for surf l/saving events! Can i ask if there are further developments? As long term official i have thoughts on 1 super improvement. Hi vis singlets are given to competitors at every event. Could we not sew in the chip to the chest or have a patch onnthe chest for it to be placed and then some technology at the finish to read the chip and record the finishers as they cross the finish line automatically updating just as we now have to do manually with the phone?
Really needed to permit instantaneous finish places as in most races with 20-40 athletes, finishes are often very willing with athletes bustling and boisterous to cross the finish line.
It is often impossible for line judges to get placings correct when you have so many athletes piling on through a narrow finish line and lots just stopping right after the line causing pile ups and wrong placings then athlete disgruntlement whennthey believe we have got it wrong!
Cheers
